The opening night of the 1st Annual Filipino Film Festival was a huge success. The event brought out several leaders of the Hawaii Filipino Community on the Island and from abroad. The first film in the six film series was 100 directed by Chris Martinez. The celebration of independent Filipino film begins with the first of six new and award winning films by independent filmmakers. The films have received reviews from Filipino film critics and audiences raving of thier reach into common themes uniting the community around the globe while keeping the message very personal. Two of the films were in the 2008 Louis Vuitton Hawai'i International Film Festival, hosted at the Dole Cannery Theaters, and are now back by popular demand. Actress Mylene Dizon, plays the lead role of the dying Joyce De Leon and is supported by Eugene Domingo playing Ruby the long suffering friend and the film's comic relief, with Tessie Tomas, as her mom.
